I obtained my PhD in Biology with a specialization in Microbiology in 2011 from the University of Coimbra. Between 2011 and 2015, I worked as a researcher at CNCBC and between 2015 and 2023 at CFE, both at the University of Coimbra. This experience enabled me to establish my own research group and pursue independent research, overseeing projects and mentoring MSc and PhD students. My primary research interests encompassed astrobiology, microbial ecology, biotechnology, molecular biology, and extremozymes.
Currently, I serve as CEO and shareholder of TimeUP®, a spin-off from the University of Coimbra, where I continue my investigations into the enzymatic profile of pathogenic bacteria with the aim of translating my findings into biomedical applications. Besides my scientific endeavors, I am a father, husband and a professor of the centenary martial art Tai Chi Chuan.
Was born in Lisbon in 1973 but grew up in Viseu until moving to Coimbra where she graduated in 1997 in Biochemistry. She completed the Master’s degree in Animal Experimentation in 2001 and received her PhD in Chemical Engineering in 2007 at the University of Coimbra. She was a professor at the Catholic University of Viseu until 2012 and then pursued a career in Scientific Research at Instituto Superior Técnico (Lisbon) and University of Coimbra. During this journey she was a Guest Lecturer at the Coimbra Institute of Engineering (ISEC) of Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (IPC). She is currently an Assistant Researcher at IPC, an integrated member of CERNAS (IPC) and a collaborator at CERES (DEQ/FCTUC) developing work in the area of biomaterials and bioengineering. She appreciates tradition and values what is Portuguese, finding her peace of mind after the working week on her cavaquinho that she has played for 6 years.

Born in Coimbra in 1973, graduated in Biochemistry at the University of Coimbra in 1995, has a master’s degree in Vision Sciences and a PhD in Chemical Engineering. He worked for 15 years at Bluepharma, in the R&D department where he assumed various management roles , either in projects, facilities and teams. He is currently founder and CEO of INEYE PHARMA and TIMEUP, two spin-offs from the University of Coimbra and Researcher at CERES, the Research Center of Chemical Engineering Dept at FCTUC, where he continues to develop projects in the area of polymers for biomedical applications. He is also a Guest Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra and a consultant for pharmaceutical companies. He is a fun person and always has new ideas and the desire to put them into practice. He is ambitious and optimistic by nature, which allows him to make the most of every moment, whether good or bad.
Was born in 1993 and is a native of Lousã. In 2017, she completed her master’s degree in Chemical Engineering. She continued in the research field and is currently dedicated to her PhD within the scope of TIMEUP project. This project has recently given rise to a spin-off, of which she is co-founder. Her work has focused mainly on the development of polymeric materials for applications in the biomedical field. Outside the lab she enjoys exploring a variety of interests, always looking for new challenges and learning experiences.
